December marks the orchard fruit season in Europe. ‘Mouneyrac’ apples and pears from France are now in their prime. Not forgetting our British favourites, braeburn, cox and russet varieties are also reaching their ultimate ripeness.

‘Mon Cheri’ clementines from Spain are absolutely fabulous at this time of the year. Other stand out citrus fruits include blood oranges from Italy, leafy clementines along with beautiful lemons and navel oranges from Spain. Vegetables

This month has an abundance of Christmas vegetables staples including brussel sprouts & brussel tops. Other top UK highlights include a wide range of brassica vegetables such as cauliflowers, cabbages, kales, purple sprouting broccoli and romanesco.

Outside of Britain, the Spanish season for aubergine, broccoli, peppers and tomatoes is also in full swing. Italian Cime de Rape and Puntarelle are both popular seasonal choices for winter salads at this time of year. During this festive period, we cannot forget the nuts that are in season, most notably chestnuts and walnuts.
